Sturm in Portovenere 2

Portovenere liegt malerisch hinter La Spezia. Einfach herrlich. Einfach schön.

Today the weather is bad and yet Portovenere is magically beautiful. Portovenere shows its rough side today. Wild. Stormy. Rainy. And gladly that makes me really mood: Because the tourists are gone. I'm almost alone. Paint with oil paints against the rain? No problem. Of course, I have smeared my clothes with paint and of course, the painting is not knotty. It has mistakes. But it lives. Because Portovenere is here on the Leinbwand for me as I have experienced it. Just lovely. Just beautiful.

Sturm in Portovenere 2

Tempesta a Portovenere 2

Eppure in qualche modo alieno.

Storm in Portovenere 2

In the artwork 'Sturm in Portovenere 2', the artist spectacularly brings the stormy and moving port atmosphere in Portovenere with oil paints on canvas. The small Ligurian port community is so coarse made with seemingly few brushstrokes that you can literally feel the wind that wraps around them. The artist immerses the harbor town in a strange light. Almost as if Portovenere, with its old houses, was illuminated by an invisible ray of light, while around the backdrop, eerie and dark clouds tower up. The sea absorbs the colors and dynamics of the sky, surrounding the center of the image with a contrasting and moving foreground like background. Christian Seebauer knows how to make the scene appear as if everyone was in a great hurry, in the middle of a storm, and as if you were standing right next to him as a viewer. Each brushstroke sits and the complete work is completed. Nothing could be added to that without taking away the dynamics of the elements of wind, water, salt and land. Anyone who puts himself into the oil painting, discovers many details, such as a mast on top of the rocks, before the gusts whirl up dust and seem to combine sky with the ground. The castle of Portovenere is only hinted at. And there, where actually ugly industrial buildings are, the artist suggests a few houses. Anyone who knows Portovenere from the point of view of the island of Palmeria, the view is familiar on the one hand. And yet somehow alien. The artist does not care about geographical details or the exact reproduction of buildings, but rather brings an unmistakable mood on canvas. He draws a moment that changes every second. In the oil painting one searches the color black in vain. The darkest colors are Prussian blue and dark orange / brown. These give the work a rich color contrast and leave the viewer amazed.

Portovenere 2
