Polar Bear

No way back.

No way back. Today there are only about 20,000 polar bears in the Arctic region. With a mixture of cool and warm colors I wanted to capture the loneliness and hopelessness of this polar bear. Once started, there is no turning back. New passages are navigable, very profitable for our politicians and economic leaders. But this bear will never return. Preserving our environment requires much more effort from all of us.

Oil Painting Polar Bear,

Oil Painting Polar Bear,

The artist sets the lonely and lost-looking polar bear in front of a rich, warm yellow, which seems to drift off into the oppressive seeming infinity on an ice floe. The play of colors between the cool and expected for an Arctic motif blue tones in transition with warm ocher / yellow tones seems unusual and yet it is a direct allusion to global warming, which can not be expressed more drastically. At first glance, the motif "polar bear" appears peaceful and completely harmonious. But after only a few glimpses, the viewer becomes aware of the deadly inevitability of the motif: a polar bear who will not find his way back. A Speizies that is threatened with extinction. No wave breaks through this eerie silence of the work. The ice shelf is hinted at in the distance only as a white line on the horizon. That would be her, the home of the polar bear. The "Polar Bear" of 2010 is an artistic exploration of the consequences of climate change. Oil on canvas. Or: horror on canvas. Seebauer's environmentally and socially critical works are not for the faint-hearted.

Orso polare dipinto a olio,

Polar Bear Oil Painting

At first glance, the oil painting "Polar Bear" appears very peaceful: on the front is the bright, ice-cold polar sea and on the horizon the characteristic gray-blue polar sky can be seen. However, if the observer looks closely, he sees in the center of the picture, in very light colors, almost invisible, a polar bear standing on an ice plate. He reaches out his right front leg and seems to be trying to move to the small ice floe floating in front of him. The plaice will certainly not be able to carry the heavy polar bear. The viewer knows what will happen next: The polar bear will find himself trapped on his ice floe. He will look around and realize that there is no Arctic country and therefore no living space for him. Soon his plaice will be melted away, he will be in the sea and this will be his end. This initially idyllic-looking painting thus unfolds its cruel reality only on closer inspection. A reality that we all have to answer for. The artist calls to thinking and acting with his work. We must not allow the destruction of our flora and fauna! Genre: Environmental Critical Painting / Sociocritical Painting Technique: oil paints on canvas Style: Realism / Impressionism
